How This Works

Welcome to Buffyverse Ratings, a website which dedicates itself to the Buffy and Angel Television series. Buffyverse ratings uses my own personal opinion to rate Buffy and Angel character’s through their journey through the every episode in the series. Characters will be givern points based on character moments such as funny lines, dramatic gestures, insightful quotes, heroic moments and just things that I generally like. Each episode will have a count of the points each character managed as well as the current season count and overall count. These points counts don’t necessarily tell who the best character, but gives you an indication of how each character does in each episode. The major Characters such as Buffy, Angel, Xander, Willow, Cordelia etc… will have the most points purely because they are on screen more.

I will have a episode summary taken from Wikipedia so that you can refresh your memory of the episode then my verdicts will be given. I have watched all the episodes at least twice and will use this site not only to share my opinion about the characters and episodes but to show how many great character moments occur on such a regular basis and what episodes are full of them. I will also give stats on characters in the season reviews and give a general ranking of episode by character points. I will put up my personal ranking of the episodes at some point but the episodes with a lot of character points are generally good ones.

I will also provide a brief review of each episode and give the episode a score out of 100. I was previously using letter grades but have since found it to imprecise and now prefer a number based system-

100-90/ The classic episodes, the best of the best of the Buffyverse which have all the right elements that make near perfect Television. Character’s are top notch, plot’s are thoroughly entertaining and the writing is superb.

89-80/ Great episodes. Missing one crucial element that prevents it from reaching classic status but still has great writing, character’s and plots. Must watch episodes.

79-70/ Good episodes. Entertaining TV which just isn’t as strong as the classic or the great’s. Maybe missing a strong plot or not packed with character but still very decent. Recommended episodes that often are crucial for the series.

69-60/ Decent episodes. Not the best episodes in the Buffyverse but still have some admirable qualities. Not really worth a second watch unless there’s some nice scene which is worth watching again, which does happen. Most often lacks a strong plot or sharp writing. Sometimes lacks a good amount character moments.

59-50/ The worst episodes, lack most of the crucial elements needed. Thankfully, there are little of these episodes.

I will try to get each episode out as regularly as time will allow me, I’ll set the goal for at a episode a day, but we’ll see how we go. Feel free to comment on anything I’ve written and your general thoughts about an episode or a character. So click on a season and check it out.

*NOTE* I’ve hit a bit of a workload and will have trouble getting lots of work done on the website, I’m hoping to get back into it in the next month or two.
